Outsource Receivables has been in business in the Twin Cities area for over 15 years. As a business and as individuals, it is vitally important to give back to the community. It is also rejuvenating  to take a break from the medical billing business and connect periodically with local organizations helping those in need.  Feed My Starving Children is one of the those local organizations and it’s mission impacts the lives of malnourished children in nearly 70 countries. Volunteering not only helps families in need but will inspire, motivate and educate anyone who gives a hand.photo 1

When organizing the November employee volunteer day no one realized that there would be a tragedy in the Philippines that would necessitate emergency resources. Feed My Starving Children is in the process of preparing and delivering 2.5 million MannaPack™ meals for Typhoon Haiyan survivors in the Philippines. Humanitarian organizations working in the region are distributing the meals to needy families.

ORI did what it could along with volunteers from local schools and businesses packing 100 cases of food or 21,384 meals in just a few short hours. The volunteer experience is also a great team building exercise since everyone needs to learn a new role and depend on each other to be successful. While things may start off slow everyone joins in the enthusiasm and excitement as the assembly line quickens’ its pace. As each case of food is filled it is announced with a big team shout-out. The day is finished with a prayer over the food that will make its way to a far away place to desperate families in need. Before leaving, everyone gets a sample of what they have produced – a tasty, nutrition packed meal, and a warm reminder that they are welcome back to volunteer again someday soon.

If you would like to help out you can volunteer as an individual or a company. To donate, just visit fmsc.org/Philippines or text REBUILD to 50555 to make a $10 donation to FMSC.

It wasn’t the first time for ORI staff to volunteer with FMSC and it won’t be the last!
